‘Standoff’ with China to determine chromite price direction

High demand in Asia was instrumental in driving prices upwards during 2016, although market participants say volatility may come to affect the market in 2017 depending on how upcoming negotiations with Chinese customers will take shape.

The chromite market is slowly waking up as China resumes business after the holiday period, but suppliers say "a standoff" is developing with buyers, the outcome of which will determine market direction for the near future.

Discussions between buyers and sellers of chromite are restarting after a few quiet weeks...
