SQM lithium revenue up 130% in 2016

The Chilean lithium, iodine and potash producer saw revenues from lithium spike last year, driven by higher prices in a tight market. Iodine revenues fell amid a low price dynamic, although the company’s market share grew.

Chile’s Sociedad Quimica y Minera SA (SQM) brought in lithium revenues of $514.6m in 2016, up 131% on the previous year.

The company pointed to "robust" global demand growth of around 14% for the battery mineral, which were not matched by supply increases.
