Bauxite & Alumina '17: China’s cost profile in alumina 'to increase'

The Chinese government’s long-term plan to clean up the bauxite and alumina industry by closing polluting operations will lead to additional costs for companies that will stay in business, sources at the 23rd Bauxite & Alumina conference in Miami said.

China will become "a more expensive alumina producer" as the ongoing clampdown on polluting industries in the country will force the sector to adopt cleaner production practices, which carry a higher cost profile, sources gathered in Miami for the 23rd Bauxite & Alumina conference this week told IM.
