China’s refractory customers show strength in 2016

Downstream markets such as steel, construction and nonferrous metals, which consume industrial minerals via refractories, saw growth in China in 2016.

Output in the crude steel, cement, flat glass and nonferrous metals sectors all increased year-on-year (y-o-y), by 1.2%, 2.5%, 5.8% and 2.5% respectively. 

By comparison in 2015, output had fallen in crude steel, cement and glass.
