Ilmenite outlook no clearer despite more optimism

Ilmenite traders eye looming Chinese capacity losses, while welding powder producers fear Stradbroke shutdown which will take around 35,000 tonnes of rutile out of the market by 2020.

Prices for ilmenite cargoes arriving in Chinese ports have traded in a steady band over the past month, but traders are warning of a inland supply squeeze to come.
