Market participants warn of Chinese fluorspar post-holiday prices increase

A number of market participants are wary of another fluorspar price increase in October as China is closed for business for a week-long national holiday. The ongoing output cuts due to environmental controls and the depreciating US dollar value are supporting fluorspar prices, which are increasingly setting the tone for the 2018 annual supply contract negotiations.

Market participants are concerned about a potential increase in fluorspar prices in China at the end of the golden week national holiday in October, as supply uncertainty persists.   

China is the largest fluorspar producer in the world, accounting for about 50% of global supply in 2016.
