Following market consultation and the pricing notice issued
on October 6, 2017,
Industrial Minerals will begin publishing two new China
domestic prices for lithium carbonate effective from November
2, 2017.
As demand from the battery sector increases, Industrial
Minerals, which has tracked lithium prices since the 1980s, is
positioned to offer ex-works China battery grade prices as well
as technical and industrial grade prices for lithium
carbonate.
The China spot market for lithium has grown in recent years,
while price movements in the domestic market have gained
importance on a global scale following the price spike in late
2015 and into 2016.
As demand for lithium carbonate in China grows due to more
lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles being produced
there, Industrial Minerals aims to be an independent source of
pricing data for market participants.
The two domestic prices will complement Industrial Minerals'
wider coverage of the global lithium carbonate and hydroxide
markets.
The two new assessments are:
• Lithium carbonate min 99.5% Li2CO3 battery grade,
spot price range, ex-works domestic China,
RMB/tonne*
• Lithium carbonate min 99% Li2CO3 technical and
industrial grade, spot price range, ex-works domestic China,
RMB/tonne
The two grades will be published both as a single number and as
a range.
