China supply uncertainty pushes brown fused-alumina price up

Refractory grade brown fused-alumina (BFA) is trading above $800 per tonne while producers see no end to government-led production limitations on processing plants as part of Beijing’s quest for ‘blue skies’.

BFA prices ticked up over the past week following continued uncertainty on China’s supply situation, amid renewed concerns of additional curtailments to production in key areas.

While availability remains limited after some four months of enforced shutdowns at alumina production facilities in Henan province, buyers’ hopes of price stabilization...
