Solvay to add 500,000 tpy to soda ash output but still cannot justify greenfield investment

Solvay is improving plant efficiency to add 500,000 tpy to its soda ash capacity across four sites, amid market tightness, but cannot foresee a good enough return on investment at a greenfield site until “fair” pricing has been achieved.
Belgian producer Solvay is seeking to improve its output of
soda ash by 500,000 tonnes per year, primarily across its four
major exporting plants by debottlenecking its processes, the
company told Fastmarkets on Friday February 22.
But it continues to shy away from greenfield investment in
new production assets...
