Paintmakers report poor Chinese demand, slow start to US coatings season

TiO2 buyers report a slower than expected ramp-up in seasonal demand increase for pigment, while paint demand in China is ‘hanging in there.’

US paintmaker Sherwin-Williams reported increased sales in the first quarter of 2019, although the pace of the increase was slowed by a disappointing start to the painting season. Rival paintmaker AkzoNobel reported falling volumes, meanwhile, particularly for sales of decorating paint in China.
