Lower lithium margins at SQM offset strong in iodine, potassium chloride results

Lower lithium prices and higher lease payments to the Chilean development agency, Corfo, led to the reduction in lithium margins and dented SQM's performance in the first quarter of 2019, despite strong iodine and potassium chloride results.

In the first quarter of 2019, SQM reported a decrease in earnings of 29.26% to $80.5 million from $113.8 million in the first quarter of 2018 while gross profit fell 24.49% to $145.5 million in the same comparison, the company said in an earnings call on Thursday May 23. ...
