ZIA CONF: Speakers differ over zircon demand prospects

One major Chinese miller has forecast falling demand, but other analysts expect a more resilient market, Fastmarkets heard at the Zircon Industry Association (ZIA) conference in Dubai on September 4.

Global zircon demand is expected to fall to 1 million tonnes in 2019 and to 850,000-900,000 tonnes for the "next couple of years," according to Lincoln Ying, chief executive officer at Matrix, one of China’s largest producers of zircon opacifiers.
