Rio Tinto announces restart of Richards Bay mineral sand operations

Global miner Rio Tinto will restart mining of mineral sand after meeting the KwaZulu-Natal provincial premier to discuss incidences of criminal violence directed at its employees.

Rio Tinto will restart its mining operations at the Richards Bay Minerals facility in South Africa, after meeting with Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal province.

"Rio Tinto has today started the process of resuming operations at Richards Bay Minerals [RBM] in South Africa," the company said on December 30.
