Brown fused alumina, bauxite prices up slightly on tight supply before Chinese new year

The appreciation of the Chinese yuan against the US dollar is adding pressure to the quiet markets for fused alumina and bauxite before the Chinese new year holiday period.

Market prices for brown fused alumina (BFA) and refractory-grade bauxite have moved up slightly over the past fortnight amid supply tightness brought about by the environmental crackdown in the major production hubs of China’s Henan and Shanxi provinces.
