Lockdown throws South African chromite industry into disarray

South Africa’s troubled chromite industry appeared to have been temporarily halted by the decision announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday March 23 to impose a stoppage on the operations of the country’s mining sector.

As a result, the industry was left in a state of confusion about its status.

The government has chosen to implement strict measures in its defense against the spread of the 2019 nCoV coronavirus pandemic.

The order means that all mines and furnaces will shut after midnight on March 26...
