China’s bauxite, alumina shipment volumes plunge amid Covid-19 disruptions

Shipments of bauxite and fused alumina from China dropped by more than 30% in January and February this year, under the combined effects of the extended lunar new year holiday and the Covid-19 pandemic that has disrupted operations and logistics in most parts of the East Asian country.

China’s customs authority delayed the release of detailed trade data for January 2020, and in March it released a single publication showing data for both January and February. This related to shipments of bauxite under HS Code 25083000, and brown-fused alumina (BFA) and white-fused alumina (WFA) under HS Codes 28181010...
