Weak global chromite demand balances tightening supply

Sentiment in the chromite market continued to improve in the week ended Tuesday May 19 but this has not yet translated into higher transaction prices, while consumption has been muted and the Covid-19-related lockdown in South Africa continued to hamper activity among producers.

Fastmarkets’ weekly assessment of the price for chromite, foundry, 46% Cr2O3 min, dried and bagged, fob South Africa, was stable at $275-395 per tonne on Tuesday.
