Arkema signs alternative fluorine supply deal

French chemicals company Arkema has signed a supply deal with fertilizer producer Nutrien for phosphate-derived hydrofluoric acid, diversifying its supply base away from mined fluorspar.
The supply deal is scheduled to start in the first half of
2022. Nutrien will supply Arkema with anhydrous hydrogen
fluoride (AHF) produced from phosphorus, a by-product of
fertilizer production. Arkema will produce fluoropolymers,
refrigerants and fluoro-derivatives from the AHF.
The length of the deal was not specified.
