Localized Covid-19 lockdowns threaten reopening of economies

Spikes in the numbers of Covid-19 infections around the globe are causing a resurgence in the use of lockdown measures, threatening to slow the recovery of economic activity.

These localized spikes in case numbers have been met with reapplications of lockdown measures in specific areas rather than nationwide in affected countries, but they raise questions about whether a second wave of virus infections is likely.
