Silicon carbide prices buck downward trend of other minerals hit by Covid-19

Silicon carbide prices for abrasive and refractory applications remained mostly steady month on month on Tuesday July 28, bucking the downward trend of other industrial minerals since the beginning of the year as a consequence of the economic slowdown triggered by the Covid-19 global pandemic.

Fastmarkets’ latest assessment of the silicon carbide FEPA 8-220 black about 99% SiC water wash ddp Europe price was €1,300-1,400 ($1,525-1,642) per tonne on Tuesday July 28, unchanged over the past nine months. The price of the product dropped by around 3.7% in 2019, historical assessments showed....
