US introduces legislation to support rare earth industry

US legislators have introduced a bill aimed at delivering tax incentives for domestic rare earth production, in the latest attempt to wrest control of the sector out of Chinese hands.

The Reclaiming American Rare Earths (Rare) act, introduced on Tuesday September 1, is intended to reduce the United States’ dependence on Chinese rare earths, a group of minerals that have a wide range of technological applications, including in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
