PRICING NOTICE: Proposal to discontinue alumina hydrate (ATH) price assessment

Published: Monday, 07 September 2020

Fastmarkets is proposing to discontinue its assessment of the price of alumina hydrate (ATH).

Fastmarkets is seeking feedback on its proposal to discontinue the following price assessment:

MB-ALU-0014 Hydrated alumina (ATH), damp (57-60% Al2O3, 5-8% moisture) bulk, fob refinery, $ per tonne

Fastmarkets is proposing the discontinuation of this price as a result of the evolution of the hydrate industry in North America, where fewer active market participants now work mainly on long-term contracts. This price assessment, in our view, no longer serves the needs of the sector in its current form.

Fastmarkets will continue to assess all of its other prices for non-metallurgical alumina products on a fortnightly and monthly basis, as listed below:

MB-ALU-0006 Alumina, fused brown, 95% min Al2O3, refractory sized (0-6mm), fob China, $ per tonne

MB-ALU-0008 Fused alumina, brown 95% min Al2O3, FEPA F8-220 Grit, fob China, $ per tonne

MB-ALU-0009 Fused alumina, white, 25kg bags, cif Europe, € per tonne

MB-ALU-0011 Alumina, calcined, unground 98.5-99.5% Al2O3, bulk, ex-works US/Europe, long-term contract, $ per tonne

MB-ALU-0012 Alumina, calcined, ground and unground, min 99.5% Al2O3, medium-soda min 0.25% soda, bulk, ex-works US/Europe, long-term contract, $ per tonne

MB-ALU-0013 Alumina, calcined, ground 98.5-99.5% Al2O3, bulk, ex-works US/Europe, long-term contract, $ per tonne.

The consultation period for this price discontinuation will end on October 8, with changes taking place from October 9, subject to market feedback.
