Bauxite, abrasive BFA prices rise on yuan appreciation; WFA ticks up on higher freight

Prices of bauxite, white fused alumina (WFA) and abrasive-grade brown fused alumina (BFA) all ticked upward on exchange-rate fluctuations and rising freight rates during the two weeks to Thursday September 17, the first positive pricing moves in all three commodities for several months.

Fastmarkets’ latest price assessments for the four bauxite grades all ticked upward during the past fortnight.

Market sentiment for refractory-grade bauxite became firmer, with a number of sources telling Fastmarkets that they were bullish about bauxite in the coming weeks, with supply issues adding to the currency changes.
