China’s bauxite supply crisis to escalate in winter

A new round of environmental regulations in the coming winter season will add to the supply crisis caused by a shortage of bauxite ore and depletion of high-quality resources in Shanxi province, China’s production hub for refractory-grade bauxite, sources have told Fastmarkets.

China is continuing its efforts to curtail its environmental pollution following the recent launch of a document on staggered operations in the winter of 2020-21 that will affect cities and provinces in the north of the country.
