South African chromite producers pressure govt on export tax

South Africa’s producers of non-metallurgical chromite have formed a lobby group to pressure the country’s government on the recently proposed export tax and achieve a different customs regime that will exempt non-metallurgical grades from the levy.
Non-metallurgical chromite is not used in the production of
ferro-chrome and as such, the proponents argue, should not feel
the effects of the proposed chrome ore tax whose primary target
is the domestic ferro-chrome value chain.
