South American countries need to respond with “urgency” to surging lithium demand, driven by the push toward electromobility, Daniel Jimenez said during the annual Lithium in South America conference on Wednesday November 18.
"South America has abundant brine-based lithium resources
with low cost of production, and in spite of that Australia has
outperformed the South American region, quickly becoming a key
producer of lithium in a relatively short period of time,"
Jimenez, founder of Chile-based mining consultancy Ilimarkets,
said during the event.
