China’s magnesia market exhibits mixed moves, but optimism remains

China’s magnesia market gave a mixed performance this past week, with both lower and higher offers emerging. Some producers insisted on higher offers in lieu of mining restrictions and increased production costs, while others reduced prices to stimulate sales and improve cash flow.
Yet despite the overall divergence in prices, market
participants remain upbeat due to continued strict mining
controls in the country. The government halted the issuance of
explosives for use in magnesite mining in March, after
distributing a small amount to magnesia producers in Haicheng a
month earlier.
