Fastmarkets proposes to launch a soda ash, natural and synthetic, dense and light, cif Southeast Asia price assesment in place of one Indian and two US prices.

Given the liquidity seen in the Southeast Asia market, the new price will provide market participants with key pricing information in this high-growth area.

The proposed price specification is as follows:

Soda ash, natural and synthetic, dense and light, cif Southeast Asia, $/tonne

Quality: While salt, Na2CO3

Quantity: Minimum 35,000 tonnes

Location: cif, Southeast Asia

Timing: Spot sales, and monthly, quarterly, biannual, yearly and multi-year contracts.

Unit: US$/tonnes

Publication: Monthly, last Thursday of the month, 4pm London time

The new price will replace the three prices below, which are being proposed for delisting.

The two US prices were deemed to be not reflective of the market, given that the specifications capture both export and domestic prices.

And the domestic India price was no longer reflective of market conditions because India is importing soda ash in increasing volumes.

The consultation period for this proposed launch starts on Thursday April 8 and will end on Friday May 7, with the first assessment of the new price being published, subject to market feedback, on Thursday May 27.
