INTERVIEW: Energy Fuels CEO on the move into rare earths

Energy Fuels is one of the newest entrants to rare earth processing but has already developed one of the longest supply chains for the materials outside China, which has long dominated the industry. Fastmarkets talked to Energy Fuels' chief executive officer Mark Chalmers about the company’s rapid entrance into rare earth-rich monazite processing after decades in the uranium industry.

The company is currently processing its first shipment of monazite - a rare earth ore that also contains variable proportions of the radioactive elements thorium and uranium - into a mixed carbonate for eventual shipment to Estonia, where it will be separated into individual rare earth elements.
