FOCUS: Regulations, growing costs to increase bauxite, fused alumina supply risk

China’s heightened efforts to tackle pollution and safety controls in 2021 are set to widen supply tightness in refractory-grade bauxite and fused alumina, sources told Fastmarkets.

Environmental controls and mining regulations in Shanxi, Henan and Shandong - all major production hubs for fused alumina and bauxite - have been in place for years, interrupting operations of these upstream refractory materials.
