Alteo to impose energy surcharge on calcined alumina sales

French specialty alumina producer Alteo will apply temporary surcharges on its sales prices from next month to offset the surging energy costs in Europe, the company confirmed to Fastmarkets on Wednesday.

The surcharge comes while Europe is increasingly struggling to secure energy, which is affecting both gas and electricity costs.

On Wednesday, the company spoke of the "unpredictable in scale and very sudden" increase in energy costs which are affecting its production operations.
