Bauxite prices hit 5-year high while fused alumina slips after panic buying

Calcined bauxite prices rose to a five-year high in the two weeks to Thursday November 11 on expected supply tightness, while prices for brown fused alumina (BFA) and white fused alumina (WFA) declined due to the restart of operations amid an improved power situation in China.

Fastmarkets’ bauxite price assessments all increased again during the two-week period amid concern over the imminent winter shutdown in China's Shanxi province, a major production hub for refractory-grade bauxite.
