Fused alumina prices down again but bauxite holds firm

Fused alumina prices continued to adjust downward in the two weeks to Thursday November 25, with slow buying activity and relatively improved production following earlier record surges. Meanwhile, bauxite prices were steady on prevailing supply risks but market participants warned of possible further upward moves.

Fastmarkets’ latest price assessment for alumina, fused brown, min 95% Al2O3, refractory sized (0-6mm), fob China, was $1,020-1,080 per tonne on Thursday, down for a second consecutive fortnight, and down by 4.5% at the mid-point from the high of $1,050-1,150 per tonne a month earlier.
