    Tata Chemicals posts $11.6m quarterly loss, despite strong soda ash and salt sales

    The Indian chemicals producer said that margin pressures in its fertiliser business affected its performance in the last quarter, although the company managed to post an overall profit for the year ended 31 March. Firm sales of edible salt and solid operations at its restructured Magadi soda ash operation helped mitigate weaker earnings in its agri businesses, however.

  • Solvay forms JV to meet growing US sodium biocarbonate demand

    The Belgian company has teamed up with chemicals specialist Enirgi for the development of sodium biocarbonate product to satisfy US demand. Solvay is hoping that the new alliance will help it meet its goal of becoming a major supplier of soda derivatives to the market, for which there is growing demand owing to more stringent environmental regulations in North America.

  • Solvay posts 6.4% increase in sales as US dollar drives performance

    Like many other businesses operating in euros, Solvay has benefited from the European currency's depreciation against the US dollar. The group has seen a strong performance from its soda ash and derivatives segment and anticipates a growth of 2.5m tpa extra soda ash capacity in the market between 2017 and 2019.
