Christian Viehweger

Sr. Vice President Purchasing
RHI Magnesita

Master degree in economics. I joined the company 25 years ago (1994) in Wulfrath/Germany, when it belonged still to Thyssen Group. The company was sold few year later to Lhoist, then become LWB after the acquisition of Baker Refractories. LWB then was sold to private equity few years later.  In 2008 the group was acquired by Magnesita, then merged with RHI in 2017 to become RHI Magnesita. In 2018 the company has established the Netherlands as a global hub for purchasing and supply chain activities.
After several positions in Finance I moved to commercial , then to operations and back to Finance as VP of Finance Europe. Later I took over additional responsibilities in purchasing and supply chain for European activities of Magnesita, then was in charge of SCM and purchasing globally for Magnesita until the merger with RHI. Since 2017 I am head of purchasing for the newly formed group and as such responsible for a spend of > 1.5 billion EUR. Since the merger the focus of purchasing has been on implementation of synergies between the two companies (to a big extend in raw materials) as well as working capital improvements; in addition we were working on a new company culture.
