Report assesses threats of frac sand mining to health and environment

A recent report released by Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) assessed the possible impacts of silica sand mining in Wisconsin and labelled current regulations adequate.

County and department regulations are, “adequate to ensure that permits for individual sand mining operations and processing facilities are protective of public health and the environment,” the report stated.

The DNR has come under pressure recently to review its regulations as the frac sand mining boom in Wisconsin has raised public concerns about local pollution.
