Rare earths prices could see upward pressure in Q3

Market sources point to recovery after Thai floods; warns of phosphor stockpiles

Rare earths prices have stabilised and are beginning to move up, a market source told IM this week.

 

“It has only been this week, after the Chinese May Day holiday that prices have stabilised and some began to move upward,” the source said.

 

However the market is still a lot weaker than at the same time last year. Samarium oxide, at a range of, is now 25% lower than levels at the same time last year. But it is 15% higher than levels seen at the start of the month.

 

The price is now at a range of $88-96/kg.
