The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) political party is calling on all mining companies based in South Africa to respond to its demands, which include an increase in wages and the nationalisation of some operations. The party’s supporters have threatened to target individual mines and close their operations if they do not comply with their demands.

The Ugandan government has reversed a ban on mineral exports, with the exception of iron ore and copper, introduced earlier this year. The Uganda Chamber of Mines, which has lobbied the government to lift the ban, has welcomed the decision, saying that the president had removed a clog in the development of the mining industry that had frustrated the sector for some time.
